The List!

I should have made posting my list part of the list! Day 4 has already passed and I have knocked at least 4 or 5 off my list. Phew!

So, without further ado, here it is.

What have I done so far, you ask?

1. Thursday: Make chocolate mousse. Yum, yum!

I finally got started on this after 10pm Thursday night. But that is what I love about mousse, it’s quick and easy! By 11:15 pm it was sitting pretty in the fridge.

2. Friday: fieldtrip!

We went to the Pie Hole in Downtown L.A. I learned that I love, love, love the way food looks almost more than anything. The pies were delicious but I still don’t like too much sweetness. I could handle a few bites of each and had to bag the rest. Isabel liked the lemon meringue pie so much that I am making it for dessert for Memorial day (going on the list!)

Next, we toured JPL with our very good friend, Beth. The kids said the best part was seeing the giant robot (rover). We’re sorry we didn’t come back in October when we could have watched them working on the real rover that is now en route to Mars. But I don’t think the kids really noticed that this was just a life-size replica. Thomas couldn’t stop talking about it’s giant “camera” eye and was excited to tell his Daddy that it is going to Mars.

Then we busted a move to the Huntington Gardens. We only had an hour so I thought I may go back with the kids. I’d love to go next week but I’m starting to get nervous about being too far from our hospital, so we may have to wait until July. I always go at the end of summer and really wanted to see it in the spring. It was absolutely gorgeous and you know I could spend all day there dreaming about how to make my gardens look like theirs.

We spent most of our time in the children’s garden – so much fun! This was literally “snapped” as they ran into the misting room.

So, Friday I got to knock off a field trip and seeing Beth out in Pasadena and seeing the HG all in one day. After all the stairs she made me climb and walking we did, I was beat!

3. Saturday – photo shoot!

Taking pictures of a subject who listens to you makes me want to sing. Even though I have postponed shooting until after the baby comes, I did sneak this one in. It felt good just to get my fingers oiled a bit and practicing again. (Although, you can probably tell I’ve been practicing again more recently.) I have a hundred ideas in my head for creative shooting; hopefully, I can get them out of there one day. Until then, I will continue to chase my kids and wait for the moments and light that steal my heart.

4. Sunday (Today) – planted my hanging baskets and did a self-portrait.

I was so pooped today, but like I said, I have to keep up my energy and spirits so I am staying busy. After going to church, the cemetery and Home Depot, I took a 2 hour nap! I probably could have stayed lying on the couch all day, but I got up, potted my flowers, made a flower crown and headed out of the house for some self-portrait making.

I will go ahead and say that it was really tough. For my shoot yesterday I rented a monster lens and was inspired to use it for myself today, too. This lens, however, requires the subject to be far away. So, can you imagine a giant pregnant lady running back and forth in a dress that is too long with barely a second to get into [the right] position? There might have been a bit of pain involved. Then I moved on, and more slowly, until my body could take no more.

This shot below was with my last ounce of energy. It failed! I used my tricky lens (manual focus only) and could not for the life of me get my body positioned the right way. There were only so many times I could lay myself down and roll over to get back up again. I’m showing this one for fun but you can see more from this self-portrait attempt here (it’s coming.)

I may not be able to keep up with this pace, but the size and difficulty of my tasks will vary, fortunately. So, here’s to trying!
